Starting a Research Project
All research carried out at the Clinical School will be governed by the guidelines set out in the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research.
Under the “Framework” every study requires a sponsor who is ultimately responsible for the research being undertaken. A STUDY CANNOT START UNTIL A “CONFIRMATION OF SPONSORSHIP” LETTER HAS BEEN ISSUED which confirms all the necessary governance checks, set out below, have been carried out and the governance checklist has been completed if solely sponsored by the University
- Confirmation of who will act as Sponsor
- Confirmation of funding – please provide the RG number allocated to the grant. If department funds are being used please provide the account number and confirmation from the departmental administrator that the funds are available for use. For more information about research funding click here
- Appropriate peer review
- A “favourable” ethical opinion letter – please click here for information about what type of ethics approval you require
- Confirmation of insurance from the Insurance Office
- Confirmation that any identifiable data will be held on a secure database as per Clinical School policy
- Confirmation of honorary NHS contracts or Letters of Access if appropriate. Please note to obtain these you will first need a Research Passport
- Collaboration agreements in place with other sites or collaborators. If other sites are involved in your study please contact the research office clinical school contracts team
